Wednesday 14th December i left for Dublin Ireland to corner a fighter on the BAMMA / Bellator which was taking place at the 3 Arena in Dublin.
While i was in Dublin i attended my Black belt Mick Aldridge academy in Athy to teach a workshop. While i was there i promoted Mick Aldridge to the rank of 1st Degree.
After the seminar with my blessing Mick promoted 2 students to the rank of Black Belt.
Louis McMahon and Andrew MCconvile .
Huge congrats guys well done.
Look forward to seeing you soon.
Words can not explain how I felt tonight after watching my purple belt student teach the class in my absence.
“Why would this leave you speechless I hear you ask” , “well this purple belt is blind”! ……….
Having taught & practiced jiu-Jitsu alongside this incredible individual for the past 4 years I often forget he is visually impaired, visiting jiu-Jitsu practitioners are not forewarned that he has a visual impairment yet this talented young man arrives in the academy day and night practicing and refining his skills sparring and training alongside sometimes the most elite professional MMA & UFC fighters.
Tonight I witnessed him reveal another chapter in his journey and this has been one of my proudest moments of not only being a teacher but as a human being.
Tonight I was truly humbled…….
Thank you jiu-Jitsu and the Gracie Family for teaching me to to speak the global language of our art, to be able to share with everyone & anyone especially those who are less fortunate & considered to be disabled. Osssssssss
One of the most concerning parts of a violent street altercation is the ability to close the distance and clinch on an opponent who is intent on striking you.
Since the early UFC Royce Gracie showed how effective the clinch was and how it was an integral part of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
While there are many ways to clinch an adversary we believe that starting at a grass roots level will not only give the jiu-jitsu practitioner the ability to execute the clinch but will also teach him/her the confidence to execute this move.
This week we will be focusing on variations of the clinch and pressure testing it feel free to stop by and take your first FREE class.
We look forward to meeting you.
