Jiu-Jitsu is considered to be the most ancient and complete of the martial arts, When taught in its entirity is the most complete form of self Defence.
Not only is the practitioner of Jiu-Jitsu able to Grapple but also if needed he or she is able to call upon the skills of Striking, Takedowns , Throws , Weapon Defence, & Clinching .

Apart from all the the training in Jiu-Jitsu it is very important that one should also practice mindset training and practice in a manor that would prepare him or her for a violent confrontation on the street.
The sportive side of jiu-jitsu is great and promotes healthy living, fitness , brings awareness to our art and of course jiu-jitsu for a sportive environment.
With that said those who sole practice just the sportive elements should definitely support there training with some stand up fighting I.E Boxing or Muay Thai and be mindful not to fall into the trap of Sport jiu-jitsu preparing them for a violent street confrontation, you wouldn’t want to become a black belt in BJJ and not be able to escape a simple head lock or bear hug.
