The benefits of the Helio Gracie Jiu-Jitsu “Pisao Stomp Kick”

Let me take you back to the year 1993, Denver colorado when a young fighter by the name of Royce Gracie first entered the octagon,

This was the first time i noticed that a jiu-jitsu fighter also used strikes in combination with grappling.

This was the first time i saw the Pisao or stomp kick as its now more commonly known being used very effectivly, But why are fighters today using this kick more and more ?.

We have had the likes of UFC MW champion Anderson Silva use this kick with devastating style.

LHW Champion Jon Bones Jones Use the same kick with amazing results.

In our Academy this kick is taught as part of our fundamental self defense programme and forms part of Grand master Helio Gracie’s Self defense Curriculum.

The kick is snapped out towards the knee and thigh area so as the foot is a lot harder to grab,it is also a great way to keep a would be assailant away from you or for closing the distance when used correctly.

Below are some good examples of it being used.

Remember Gracie jiu jitsu is so much more then just a grappling art.
